Hello All,
I just joined in as a member of the "Plant World" and interestingly I have found no topic of discussion on aquatic Plants, or did I miss it maybe I have I don't know.
Anyway is there anyone out there who is in aquatics? I am a breeder of these beautiful plants and would like to exchange any inormation on this topic.
I do tissue Culture and use them in my aquariums and I know there are plenty of guys who are probably into this - I would love to make ontact with them.
I am also in the position to send out the extra plants which are plenty to people who are interested in them, Please free to contact me directly.

No several large tanks. I also do installations on giant wall to wall freshwater tanks here in Nairobi. Therefore I do require plenty of stock all the time. I will send you photos soon and update you on my on going projects. By the way were are you located. Discuss are apprently not an easy fish to keep - hope you know that.

I too get fish from Singapore, your tank is quiet good and the fish also. No the climate in Nairobi can be very deceiving specially at nights, sometimes it can get as low as 8 degrees. We have all our tanks indoors and use heaters ETC. I will send you photos of the tanks, right now I am using my office computer and have photos at home. I cannot clearly recognise the floating plants in your tank but I will find out and let you. What equipment do you use? I have Hagen and Eheim on all my tanks. Try and grow some moss on the drift wood, tie it with a fishing line until it grows independetly and cut if off after. Also introduce Java Ferns they are great to grow and no problems with the discuss. fill more of the empty space and also use white sea sand it is a contrast to the colour of the fish. But that is my opinion.

Hi Saif...
What procedure do you use for "tissue culturing"? I know that it is done with many types of plants, both aquatic and terrestrial, but I've never investigated the procedures. Is it very complicated?
We are building a new house and I'll be building my new fish room, (or should I say "aquaculture" room) as well. I'm more involved with smaller fish species, ie: killies, wild type bettas, tetras, dwarf cichlids, etc. I am also heavily involved with native North American fish species. My web name comes from the fish in my picture...Pteronotropis welaka, "Blue-nosed Dace", a fairly rare, but stunning fish ! I prefer natural, planted aquariums, as well.

Java moss is beautiful and useful plant as it filters the water from nitrate, but it does need a little maintenance. The plant is prone to collect all kinds of junk and fish waste - it attracts them like magnet. Regular cleaning of java moss is advisable.
Furthermore, a variant of hair algae, the pest that actually destroyed my tank, sometimes can be found in moss. It is well disguised, so be careful when buying. Before putting the moss to the tank, always test it by separating the clump in water, to see that there are no "hidden" hairs between them.
I recommend www.tropica.com - It's very useful and has a species list of many common aquatic plants.

Hello Marcus and many other who have posted thier vies here on this topic of aquatic plants. This is great, maybe some more people have the same interests who can discuss this topic. I have been absent for some time as I had been taken very ill and was hospitalised. I am back on my feet but very weak I only wanted to inform all the guys out there that I am still here and have not disappeared. I started well with Marcus with our topic and suddenly lost the thread for which I sincerely appologise. But I am back. Let us all talk on this beautiful world of Aquatics.

I'd be interested in learning more about aquaculture & the plants grown. I know nothing about it & love to learn. I've a few questions, please -
1. Does aquaculture need fish for a good ecological environment? Can a tank be maintained without fish?
2. Are only freshwater fish suitable or can saltwater fish be used too? I realise if saltwater fish are used, the plants would need to be those suitable for saline conditions? Does aquaculture cover those plants too?
3. Can a simple arrangement be set up without much equipment or is heater, aerators/pumps, & filters always needed?
4. Finally, does anyone have a couple of good websites that explain all this from a beginner's viewpoint?
